The roots of our organization trace back to a heart-wrenching moment in 2011 when 13-year-old Desmond Jones was tragically shot and killed in Fort Myers, Florida. Faced with the unimaginable pain of loss, Desmond's mother navigated the complex terrain of grief, propelled by a mix of emotions, including anger.

In the midst of this profound sorrow, Desmond's mother became the driving force behind the creation of our organization, Grieving Mothers Against Murders. Fueled by her grief, she transformed personal tragedy into a collective effort to address the broader issue of violence in our communities.

Despite the passage of time, Desmond's case remains unsolved. Yet, his mother and family stand resilient and optimistic, believing in the power of justice. Their unwavering hope serves as a beacon for our organization's mission — to support grieving mothers, advocate against violence, and work toward a world where justice prevails.
